Palm Treo 680 Hard Reset

Palm Treo, Cingular

treo680.jpgUnlike the Treo 650, the Treo 680 does not have a reset button under the battery cover. Instead, you will be removing the battery to reset. Read below for details. There are several methods found online, this one seems to be the most “Official”. I will say that it sounds somewhat silly to have to remove the battery to perform this.

HotSync note: Some third-party applications change the way your device backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.

1. Hold down the power (on/off) button on your device.
2. While holding down the power button, turn your smartphone over to see the battery cover.
3. While still holding the power button, remove the battery cover, and fully remove the battery from the device.
4. While still holding the power button, re-insert the battery, and replace the cover.
5. When the Palm logo appears, release the power button.
6. A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your device. Press UP to complete the hard reset, erasing everything on your device.
7. Your device will then take you through a series of screens to calibrate the digitizer and verify the time and date. Then it will walk you through a brief guided tour of device features and functions.

Reset a Windows Mobile HP iPAQ

iPaq

hp-ipaq-hx4700.jpgA soft reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any
programs or saved data. Be sure to save any unsaved data within a
running application before performing a soft reset.

To perform a soft reset:
1. Locate the recessed Reset button on the bottom of your HP iPAQ.
2. Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ restarts and displays the Today screen.

A hard reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any
programs or saved data. A hard reset also resets all hardware registers.
Be sure to save any unsaved data within a running application before
performing a hard reset.

To perform a hard reset:
1. Press and hold the Calendar and iTask buttons.
2. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the
Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ for about two seconds.
3. When the HP iPAQ screen begins to fade, release the Calendar
and iTask buttons first, and then remove the stylus from the Reset
button.
4. Plug the device into the AC Adapter or press the Reset button
again.
The HP iPAQ resets and powers on.

A clean reset clears all user-installed settings, programs, and data, and it
restores your HP iPAQ to factory settings. If you perform a clean reset, your HP
iPAQ loses all data, including data in Persistent Store.

To perform a clean reset and return your HP iPAQ to factory settings:
1*. Press and hold the Calendar, Power, and Messaging buttons.
2**. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the
Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ until the device
restarts.
3. When the HP iPAQ restarts, release all of the buttons, and then
remove the stylus from the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ restarts and powers on.

* for the HX4700/4705 series, hold down the [Contacts] + [Inbox] buttons instead.
** for the HX4700/4705 series, there will be a clean reset confirmation. To cancel, press iTask and to confirm, press Calendar

Hard Reset the i-mate Kjam

While boxing up the Cingular 8125 to send to a buddy to use, I was doing a hard reset so he wouldn’t get all my girlfriend’s phone numbers. While doing this hard reset, I remembered how much of a pain it is to accomplish. Since reading how to do it is not that fun, I whipped up a little graphic to illustrate the locations of the buttons you have to hold down. I hope someone can benefit from this post. Enjoy!

Welcome to Hard Reset Guide dot com

Verizon, Axim, iPaq, at&t, Sprint, T-Mobile, Cingular, HTC

I play with dozens of cell phones, smartphones, and Pocket PC Phones and when I have to send them back, I have to do a hard reset so I don’t give some company all my contacts, etc… Well, sometimes this is not a simple task. Often times this information is not in the user’s manual. Many carriers don’t seem to like to share this info for some reason. Another hurdle is that almost every device has their own procedure. Some devices have software commands that start a hard reset, but most of the time, this is a hold down these keys while standing on your head and counting to 20 backwards trick. This site is here to serve as a place to gather these procedures. If there is one that needs to be known, but not here, let us know and I will the answer posted here.
